September 2017. Conductix-Wampfler’s LASSTEC Container Weighing System has been OIML (International Organization of Legal Metrology) certified under the R51 standard. OIML certification means that LASSTEC systems have met the conformity requirements set by OIML R51 for weight measuring instruments.
The certification is an EU-accepted verification that Conductix-Wampfler’s LASSTEC system yields accurate container weight information required by the standard. An EU-recognized certification, like OIML, is required by many ports and regulating authorities around the world to assure that port customers can use the LASSTEC system as a legal weighing system.
Data from the LASSTEC system fulfills the current SOLAS (Safety of Life At Sea) container weight verification requirements, alleviating a major concern of shippers and terminal operators verifying the gross mass (VGM) of containers accurately and with reliability.
Tristan Prevost, Conductix-Wampfler’s Weighing Systems Business Development Manager, explains that “We obtained this certification through extensive examination tests conducted by independent and accredited third party institutes. It allows our systems to be certified by local certification entities.”
With the strict SOLAS container weight verification requirements, which holds shippers accountable for documenting accurate and safe container weights, a weighing system that has gone through the certification process allows to shippers to meet SOLAS requirements.
Since IMO introduced SOLAS requirements, Conductix-Wampfler has sold more than 500 systems to terminal operators and OEMs worldwide. Conductix-Wampfler Container Weighing System is the ideal solution for ports needing reliable and accurate container weight measurements. With advanced sensors mounted directly into the twistlocks, the LASSTEC system provided a high level of accuracy “on the go.” The systems have been operating in numerous terminals around the world, with some of the systems in operation for more than six years.
Conductix-Wampfler is currently completing the installation and commissioning of 175 systems at a major terminal in the Middle East. The company has installed over 50 systems at a major container terminal operator in England.
