Level Wind Reels
Motor-Driven Reels
The travel range of some large bulk handling or mining machines exceeds the efficient size of a monospiral spool. Some machines are designed in such a way that a high and thin spool cannot fit within their structure. On crawler excavators, a monospiral spool would be too exposed. In all those cases a Conductix-Wampfler Level Wind Reel is the solution of choice.
Conductix-Wampfler Level wind reels were developed and tested over decades. They support all types of cables your applications require: HV, HV+FO, HV+Control+FO, Control only, FO only… plus hoses. They are easy to maintain. Some have been in use for 50 years.
Our low and high-voltage series of slip rings and housings safely and reliably power the biggest machines worldwide in all climates, all altitudes, and all applications for decades. Add to them our exclusive and patented, super-reliable TFO (Transmitter Fiber Optics) for secure and EMI-resistant Fiber Optics networks supporting automation and remote control needs, and you have all the ingredients at hand to increase the productivity of your largest mining and bulk storage operations.
From a standardized design base, we will tailor and adjust your level wind reel to your application. Our experts know everything about including the different types of diverting and guiding devices required, based on the exact design of the machine.
We offer the best pillow-bearings with the efficient seals you require. We offer optional two-sloped roofs on our slip ring housings to prevent debris accumulation. We offer very solid and proven mining and reeling cables. We offer plugs, couplers, angelwing anchors, and HV junction boxes. From the substation and the optical patch cabinet to the machine, we support you.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Why choose a Level Wind Reel vs a Monospiral spool?
- A Level Wind Reel can store “more” cable or hose than a monospiral spool: longer length and bigger cross-sections
- On some machines, available space, distance to ground, or crash risks prevent using monospiral spools
- The flanges of a Monospiral spool guide the cable or hose during winding and maintain it stored in spiral.
- A Level Wind Reel requires an additional winding mechanism to orderly arrange the cable or hose in helix(es) on the drum
What are the advantages of Conductix-Wampfler Level Wind Reels?
- We base our designs on standardized drums and chassis to streamline the engineering while assuring quality. This also facilitates local manufacturing near the customer, which reduces the transportation cost.
- We use very proven mining slip rings and our super-compact and super-reliable FORJ (*) called TFO
